Harriet History Week inspires a music lesson on African American folk songs that highlight Harriet Tubman’s bravery in helping her friends get to safety through the night.
Preschoolers welcome “Let My People Go,” a sculpture of Harriet Tubman commissioned by USES in 1989, to the entrance of our 48 Rutland Street building.
USES hosts a screening of the movie “Harriet” followed by a panel discussion, led by President & CEO Maicharia (featuring Reverend Irene Monroe, Marie St. Fleur and Frieda Garcia), about carrying Harriet Tubman’s legacy into the 21st century.
Each year, USES recognizes Harriet Tubman Day (March 10th) to honor and remember Harriet’s bravery and heroics. During a ten-year span she made 19 trips into the South and escorted over 300 enslaved people to freedom.
