USES Neighborhood Walks Begin Monday May 11

Roxanne’s Neighborhood, The World of Sitting Ducks, is a walk based on the new novel by Alison Barnet, South End historian. This kickoff to the 2015 United South End Settlements (USES) Neighborhood Walks series will be held on Monday, May 11, at 6 pm.

From Franklin Square to the Church of the Immaculate Conception to the commune on Mass. Ave. and many other destinations, Alison will take you on a journey back to the 60s and 70s. At the conclusion of the walk, we will continue the conversation over a delicious meal at Equator. Alison will have books available for sale at $20 for those who would like to read more about the neighborhood.

For generations, the South End and Lower Roxbury community has been home to families of all backgrounds, a refuge for the city’s artistic soul, and at the forefront of opening doors for residents and guests regardless of their sexual orientation, class or religion. USES Neighborhood Walks are an opportunity for residents and visitors to learn about the vibrant history of our neighborhood, share their personal experiences, and learn about ways to connect with neighbors and get involved in the community.

USES Neighborhood Walks are designed to be a comfortable stroll for folks of all ages and walking abilities. This summer, walks will be held May through September on the second Monday of the month and the schedule of topics will be announced shortly. The walks are offered at no cost, though we welcome a small contribution that will allow us to treat our guide to dinner. Well-behaved leashed dogs are welcome but you might want to leave Fido at home if you would like to join us at the restaurant.
