We have officially reached the halfway point of S.T.E.P, our guaranteed income pilot program, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to highlight one of our participants at the nine-month mark.
One of the program’s key components was targeting the improvement of the social-emotional welfare of our participants and their families. By prioritizing self-care, our participants have been able to focus their attention on the personal goals they hoped to achieve through S.T.E.P. For Shanyce, this came in the form of being more mindful and aware of the well-being of her family.
Through S.T.E.P, Shanyce has been allowed to reflect on the time she spends with her loved ones. “I have become more aware of the social interactions of the family and the bond of the family,” she said. By going out to eat and signing her children up for activities such as football, she has been successful in “implementing this time into my life.”
Shanyce also dreams of owning her own home one day, and with the assurances provided by S.T.E.P, she has been able to enroll in a first-time homebuyer course and apply for a first-time homebuyer’s program. Shanyce is excited about the opportunity, as it is directly working towards a long-term goal, and she hopes to build on the solid foundation of savings she has built.
“I just signed up for a homebuyer’s class, so I’ll see how that goes. I have successfully saved for a down payment, and I am hoping that the STEP program will help build my savings and keep me aware of the bonding moments with my kids,” she said, “I am saving, saving as much as I can, and I am so grateful for the program, and it has given me a peace of mind as well as increased our quality of life.”
