We know summer can be hectic and that finding affordable, fun, and family-friendly activities and events in Boston is not always easy. That is why we have compiled this list of free community outdoor events that are sure to entertain, educate, and inspire adults and children alike! Take advantage of these unique opportunities to get outside and connect with family and friends!

Titus Sparrow Park Summer Concert Series

200 W Newton St, Boston, MA 02118

Reoccurring: Wednesday evenings (until August 28) and Tuesday mornings (until August 13)

Located right down the street from USES towards St. Botolph St., Titus Sparrow Park is a beautiful spot to lounge, play, and listen to live music! Every Wednesday evening, the Friends of Titus Sparrow Park put on a free outdoor concert, in addition to offering a series of children’s concerts Tuesdays at 10am. Bring a blanket and enjoy a musical summer morning or evening in the park!

Rose Kennedy Greenway Play Sessions

Reoccurring: Thursdays at 5:00-7:00pm in Chin Park (John F Fitzgerald Surface Rd, Boston, MA 02111) in Chinatown and Sundays at 11:00am-3:00pm (Boston Harbor Islands Welcome Center, Imagination Playground)

The Rose Kennedy Greenway is excited to offer innovative spaces for free, unstructured, learning and play, connecting kids and families with safe and accessible urban park space! Every Thursday from 5:00-7:00pm in Chin Park located in Chinatown, the Greenway will provide books and games that encourage active and collaborative play! They are also offering weekly play session on Sundays from 11:00am – 3:00pm at the Boston Harbor Islands Pavilion, where kids can explore the unique Imagination Playground and Greenway Carousel!

Free Flicks on Friday and Saturday Nights

Reoccurring: Friday nights at the Hatch Shell (Storrow Drive & Mugar Way, Boston, MA) and Saturday nights at the Prudential Center (South Garden, 800 Boylston St, Boston, MA)

If you are looking to put a spin on movie night, head on over to the Hatch Shell on Fridays or the South Garden at the Prudential Center on Saturdays for a free outdoor, kid-friendly movie! Both locations will have games and giveaways at 6pm, before the start of the movie at sundown (around 8:15pm).

Dabble! Doodle! Dance! – Family Art & Dance 

Reoccurring: Every Saturday from 10:00am-12:00pm

Waterfront Plaza @Atlantic Wharf. 290 Congress Street, Boston, MA

Feeling artistic? The Fort Point Theatre Company invites you and your family to dance, paint, and create on Saturday mornings along Fort Point Channel near the Children’s Museum. Each week features art activities with Boston artists and musicians beginning at 10:00am, followed by a dance demonstrations and lessons at 11:00am. Each week focuses on a different style of dance led by artists across Boston, while visual artists engage families in painting exercises.

Isabella Stewart Gardner Neighborhood Nights

Thursday, August 1st, 5:00-9:00pm and Thursday, August 22nd , 5:00-9:00pm

On select Thursdays in August (August 1st and 22nd), the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum opens its doors to neighbors and families for a free interactive evening in their beautiful galleries and gardens. The night will include live performances, hands-on art making, food trucks, a cash bar, games, and more! This is a great opportunity to get to know other parents and caregivers while enjoying free art and music.
