This past Wednesday, the atrium of the Harriet Tubman House was transformed into a runway for United South End Settlements’ first ever Workforce Readiness Fashion Show and Luncheon.

Workforce Readiness students and staff strutted down the runway wearing business casual attire, dressed for success.

Some modeled their own clothes purchased from Solutions at Work, a nonprofit that we partner with so that Workforce Readiness students can purchase a whole week’s worth of professional attire for only $25.

Others modeled clothes borrowed from the Workforce Readiness clothing closet. This new closet is stocked with business casual clothing donated through a recent clothing drive, available for students to wear to interviews.

Following the fashion show, everyone enjoyed lunch generously donated by Whole Foods South End.

Career 101, Workforce Readiness’ career support services program, hosted the show to teach students soft skills such as how confident presentation and professional work attire can be part of their success.  Career 101 also helps students with finding jobs, writing resumes, and perfecting elevator pitches.

Such a fashion show is unique for a workforce readiness program, and its success was made possible by the great ideas and capacity that our Commonwealth Corps members bring to Workforce Readiness and USES.

If you’d like to contribute to our students’ success, we are still accepting clothing donations of professional attire to include in the Workforce Readiness clothing closet! Contact Khadejeh at kal-rijleh@uses.org 617-375-8111 with questions.
