USES has served as the hub agency for family engagement and school-readiness in the South End and Lower Roxbury since 2009. This programming is made possible through partnerships with the Boston Public Schools’ Boston Family Engagement Network and Thrive in 5, a joint initiative of the United Way and the City of Boston. Though funding from Thrive in 5 has ended, USES continues to connect with close to 300 families and over 700 children each year in an effort to ensure that children are school-ready.

The South End Family Engagement Network:

-Includes the Chinatown and the Fenway neighborhoods
-Is 1 of 10 neighborhood service center/hub agencies in Boston
-Supports families by arranging access to family support services, child development knowledge and school-readiness resources
-Builds a network that partners with families of young children and community stakeholders
-Supports families in building social connections with other families and their children
-Engages parents as leaders

The Boston Family Engagement Network is funded by Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care’s Coordinated Family and Community Engagement (CFCE) Grant.

Mission: To build a strong community by improving the education, health, safety and economic security of low-income individuals and families in Boston's historic South End/Lower Roxbury and to serve as a national model of successful neighborhood engagement.
