Cultural activity has long played a
critical role in the lives of our participants and the South End/Lower
Roxbury neighborhood. USES’ Children’s Art Centre (CAC) has been a
prominent player in that tradition for many years. Set in a beautiful
South End courtyard, with floor-to-ceiling French doors spanning its
entire length, the CAC is an inspirational site. Incorporated in 1914 by
South End House Settlement, the CAC was the first public fine arts
museum designed exclusively for children. Over the years, the CAC became
a neighborhood tradition and for many years, it brought fine arts and
cultural enrichment to children and families in the community regardless
of race, ethnic background, or ability to pay.
Current on-site programs at the CAC
include:
Pre-school Arts Program—Art exploration for children ages 3-5 from the
USES Preschool Program as well as families in the community. Click here
for more information on Youth Programs
After-school Arts Program—Art
exploration and instruction focusing on self expression, cultural
awareness, increasing skill development, and introduction of
discipline-specific vocabulary, media, and techniques for school-age
children enrolled in the USES After-school Program and in the Community.
