Artful Transformations Program Artful Transformations is a clinically informed, creative arts mentoring program with a mission to help high-risk girls ages 11-18 be successful in all areas of their lives through skill-building in the arts, arts-based mentorships, art making, performance, and exhibition of their work. The girls participate in identity forming, arts-based activities and mentorships. Each girls participation is tailored to her own circumstances, areas of interest, strengths and clinical needs.
Artful Transformations serves girls who may have already crossed the line into social, academic or legal difficulties. These youth and their families live in the Greater Metropolitan Area- their neighborhoods are some of the most culturally diverse, yet economically poor communities in Massachusetts. Our girls face challenges in daily living at school, at home, and in the street.
Assessment/Intake- is a collaborative process between the girl, her family, the referrer, and program staff. An Individual Service Plan is created for each participant, and includes Art Mentorship, Creative Arts Groups, and Community Referrals.
Case Management Sunday Night Calls maintain consistency, demonstrate staff investment in each girl, provides them with a connection to the program, and builds relationships with guardians. Case Conferences include periodic reviews with service providers and discharge planning. Advocacy referrals are made as needed to appropriate services. Transportation girls are assisted in learning to use public transportation and/or are accompanied on public transportation.
Community Meetings- are held at the beginning of the semester to introduce the girls to new staff, volunteers and interns; and to introduce them to that semesters programming.
Art Mentorship- consists of weekly individual meetings, supported attendance at outside programs, and community referrals. Community Referrals are made to summer programs, camps, other arts-based programs, and jobs.
Creative Arts Groups- are scheduled based on girls interests and needs. Creative Arts Groups last 6-10 weeks and focus on a particular art form. Groups have included visual art, singing, theater, dance, and writing.
Culminating Events- are held several times a year to celebrate the completion of the creative arts groups and provide opportunities for girls to present or perform their work with a supportive group of friends and family.
Our youth write and produce a newsletter, In Our Times, that showcases art experiences, reviews our activities, and discusses lessons learned.
With Exploring Art Forms we provide modules of skill building through the arts. Past programming includes: Contemporary art-making, creative writing, film critique, hip hop and Modern dance, pinhole photography, drama, and many others.
