Programs for school-aged youth have been integral to the settlement house movement, and USES has offered an After-School Program at 48 Rutland Street (South End House) for over 30 years, providing continuous service and support for parents who work or attend school or training. The After-School Program offers structured, thematic children’s activities for four hours on school days, and 10 hours during school vacations. The majority of program participants are African-American, and many are Latino and African immigrant children.

Program Highlights

AfterschoolThe After-School Program runs from 2 pm - 6 pm, Monday - Friday during the school year. The Summer Day Program runs from 8 am - 6 pm. Meals are included for during both sessions. We welcome children 5 to 13 years old.

Summer Day Program

Almost all After-School Program participants attend USES’ Summer Day Camp, a 10-hour, daily program that offers 52 children an opportunity to work on computer and arts projects, swim at the Blackstone Community Center, and enjoy numerous field trips. During the February and April school vacation weeks, USES offers a day-camp program that enables youth to integrate the arts and technology and participate in field trips and collaborative activities with other groups.

Homework Assistance

Academic support and homework assistance are key components of USES’ licensed After-School Program, which weaves together social, recreational and cultural opportunities, and technology. Youngsters in the program participate in art, music and drama projects through affiliation with our renowned Children's Art Centre. Students from local universities bring a much-valued dimension to the program by working with youth on special projects from theater to science.

Voucher Programs

We honor two types of vouchers to cover the cost of tuition.

Call (617) 375-8150 for more information about vouchers and tuition assistance.
