Program Information
Eligibility:
Children must be between the ages of 4.5 -10 years old. Children must have turned 4 by January 1, 2009. The program is designed to provide a nurturing environment for artistic expression and creativity for children who are interested in the arts. This program is not a good fit for children who are not interested in the arts.
Cost:
The cost per session varies. Breakfast, lunch and snack are included in the price of enrollment. Subsidized slots are available and are determined by a sliding scale based on income. Subsidized spaces are limited and are granted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Groups A and Group B:
New this year! Children will be divided by age into two groups of 20 each. Group A will consist of 4.5 to 6 year olds. This group will meet in the 3rd floor of USES' South End House at 48 Rutland St. Group B will consist of 7 to 10 year olds. This group will meet in USES' Children's Art Centre at 36 Rutland St. (Note: based on ages of enrolled children, in certain sessions, some 7 year olds may be included in Group A.) There will be some activities that all children in both groups will do together.
Arts Activities:
Each day, children will be given the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of visual arts projects and techniques ranging from crafts projects to painting, printmaking and sculpture. All artwork will be yours to take home at the end of each session. Children will be taught traditional technical skills but will also be encouraged to work on original creations and will be given freedom to use their imaginations for innovation and creative problem-solving. The Vacation Arts Program is a non-competitive environment that encourages each young artist to develop their interests, grow in their own personal style and work with others as they explore the world of art. Several times a week, children will also have an opportunity to try various movement and performance arts such as drama, percussion and dance.
Field Trips:
We will be going on field trips every Friday, including visits to localparks, museums, galleries and other locations. (Past field trips have included: Historic New England, Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston Harbor Islands, Puppet Showplace Theater, Museum of Fine Arts, and New England Aquarium). There is no additional cost of participating in weekly field trips.
